Adaptive re-use and rehabilitation of a historic mine site.
We were approached by The Formula Company in 2015 to assist in seeking planning approval for a driver training facility that would be open to the public as well as a membership base.
The project which has regional, state, national and even international significance would become a key income driver for a community which had lost revenue with the mine site closing. It would also provide biodiversity works and embellish and enhance the site while providing employment opportunities.
The three key outcomes of the project are:
- Providing world class driver training services catering for every type of licence and vehicle;
- A world class Eco-tourist resort. Best-practice sustainable eco-tourism facility
(scalable and exportable); and - Driving experiences and adventure tourism-based experiences
The public participation was significant through the process both pre and post lodgment of the application and throughout the assessment. This provided the opportunity for direct engagement with the immediate community personally and collectively prior to lodgment and engagement with the community after lodgment through the formal engagement process lead by Council.
