An exciting refurbishment for the Business Centre Innovation Space

Working together with Shaddock Architects and Extent Heritage Advisors we are proud to have provided strategic planning advice and work for the renewal of this space.

Our services included initial advice on the planning pathway, the preparation of the Statement of Environmental Effects and the development application through to securing development approval from Council.

The refurbishment will involve both external works and internal fit out for the existing Business Centre premises, located within Newcastle City Centre Heritage Conservation Area. It will include reconfiguring and demolishing multiple walls to create a modern open plan office space and will upgrade the building to current standards regarding accessibility and fire.

The Barr Planning team enjoyed working on this project for a not for profit organisation knowing it will have a positive social and economic impact on the community, which is an important value for the team. Further to this, the project allowed the team to focus on both the progressive impact for the public domain and the Heritage Conservation area.

The Business Centre is a community invested organisation that has been responding to the needs of entrepreneurs, businesses, and governments for more than 34 years. They are a not-for profit with the sole purpose of creating sustainability in jobs, businesses, urban and rural economies.
